    CAPSULE WARDROBE: COACH LEATHER BOOTS

This is the first post detailing the pieces I include in my capsule wardrobe.

As I try to formulate a more organized capsule wardrobe, I’m also attempting to make my wardrobe more “grown up”. I realized I needed a pair of better boots because I can’t wear Uggs everywhere. In my search, I looked for black suede/velvet boots with block heels but came across the Coach Montana Boots instead:

  • WHY I TRY (VERY HARD) TO NOT SHOP FAST FASHION.

WHY I TRY (VERY HARD) TO NOT SHOP FAST FASHION.

Do you know where your clothes come from? Of course, they came from Fashion Nova or H&M–maybe even Nordstrom. But do you know who made them?

Most people don’t. A lot of the larger corporations aren’t transparent when it comes to their supply chain. I try my best to not shop fast fashion and about 90% of the clothing I’ve bought in the past year was either ethically made or purchased second hand.

  • A NOTE.

    A NOTE.

I’m extremely embarrassed. It’s been 7 months since I posted on this site. I tell people threads & such is my baby, but what kind of parent neglects their child for seven months? I haven’t fed it, given it love, or even looked at it a lot. I just checked it every so often to make sure that nobody had hacked into my site.

Since April, I’ve risen, fallen, lost, gained, and much more. I’ve been really happy, and I’ve been really sad. Most importantly, I’ve worked hard. I’m wrapping up my senior year and just trying to graduate. I’ve worked so hard I didn’t give any attention to my passion.

What good is working hard if you’re not working towards your passion? A majority of my time goes towards working–I never delegated any time towards working on my site–an extension of me.

Some highlights from the past few months:

    • I got an internship writing for a magazine (a dream),
    • Direct deposit finally decided to show its face in my life once again.
    • I saw Solange Piaget Knowles-Ferguson live and got a book signed by her.
    • I applied for grad school.
    • I further developed my purpose.
    • I started journaling again.
    • I bought some Miu Miu glasses.

As the year wraps up, I have a lot more to look forward to. I’m feeling pretty indifferent about how this year has gone, but I still have a chance to finish strong. Everything is in my hands. I’m hopeful, but at the same time reluctant–the same way I feel about pretty much everything.

I’ll be posting a few more times on here and actually speaking on important things (fashion, duh) so be on the lookout for that.

  • WHY WE NEED MORE KAHLANAS, SHIONAS, AND ELAINES.

WHY WE NEED MORE KAHLANAS, SHIONAS, AND ELAINES.

Following a conversation with my mentor, I realized how important it is to show that we’re included in spaces where we’ve been denied from for many years.

Kahlana Barfield-Brown, Shiona Turini, and Elaine Welteroth are all black women who are taking over the fashion industry. Barfield-Brown serves as the fashion and beauty editor-at-large at InStyle. Turini is a freelance fashion editor, stylist, creative consultant, and contributor to The Cut. Welteroth is the first African American editor-in-chief at Teen Vogue.

  • THREE WAYS TO KEEP YOUR TECH ORGANIZED.

THREE WAYS TO KEEP YOUR TECH ORGANIZED.

You’re mindlessly scrolling through Instagram and admiring your newest obsession (mine is Keith Powers tbh) when the “Storage Almost Full” message comes up on your phone. Ugh. Why does it seem like this happens every week?

Whether you have a 16, 64, or 128 gigabyte phone, or even a laptop with a terabyte of memory, there’s no doubt that you could use a bit more space. Here’s three tips to follow in order to stay organized.

Set a monthly reminder on your phone.

It’s time. Delete those 100 failed selfies that you’ll never post and that iMessage thread from your ex that should’ve been deleted months ago.

Set a monthly reminder on your phone (or write it down in your planner if you’re that type of person) to clean out your messages and photo album. It’ll make a huge difference.

    Unsubscribe from mailing lists.

You subscribed to a random store’s email list to receive a coupon code. You thought you would eventually make a purchase, but three years later, they’re sending you ten emails a week and you still haven’t bought a thing. Go ahead and let them go.

If you have an iPhone/iPad with iOS 10 or above, you can easily unsubscribe from annoying emails in less than 30 seconds. Follow this link to find out how.

Ditch old files you’ll know you’ll never use again.

When’s the last time you went through your downloads folder on your computer? Recently, I went through mine and discovered syllabi from my first semester of college–obviously, I don’t need those anymore.

I also had a ton of installation packs from programs that are already installed on my laptop. Once the program has been installed onto your computer, there’s no reason to keep the installation pack. If you feel uncomfortable with deleting it, just do a quick google search to ensure that you won’t have any problems running a program without the installation pack installed.

I also get rid of old, pointless projects and assignments I know I’ll never need to access again.

It’s so refreshing so clean out your electronics, and it’s pertinent to keep your tech running at optimum condition.
