    FASHION PROFILE: TAMARIND FORBES

My very first interview post is a profile of one of my most fashionable friends, Tam. Not only does style come natural to her, but her natural hair stays popping as well. We conducted our interview over a delicious lunch while exchanging stories and laughs.

Who are your top five Instagram inspirations?

    @tajabarber, @saintrecords, @ciprianaquann, @alealimay, @sza

When you get dressed, what’s the first item you reach for?

    My mascara!

When you’re trying to figure out what to wear, what do you base it off of?

I base my outfits off of color tone, you know. Like color scheme.

    Fave color scheme?

    Nudes and neutral tone colors.

    Top three stores?

    Zara, H&M, Topshop.

Top three stores you want to shop at in the future?

    Nasty Gal, VFiles, Bape.

Do you prefer skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans?

It depends on the day. If it’s hot, I’ll wear boyfriend jeans. If I’m going out I’ll wear skinny jeans.

If it’s anything in the world you could own that’s expensive, what would it be?

    An authentic gold chain.

    Crop top or tank top?

    Crop top. They’re more versatile.

As always, thanks for visiting threads & such! Come back soon!

  • IT’S LARGER THAN FASHION: PART ONE

IT’S LARGER THAN FASHION: PART ONE

I believe that makeup plays a key part in fashion; sometimes a good makeup look can overpower a designer’s line. Makeup doesn’t have to overpower a look, though. It can gently bring the look together. These are just a few of the beauty items I frequently use in my regimen that provide a subtle hint of oomph.

    NAILS

    IMG_8025.JPG

OPI: Cement the Deal. A cool-toned, deep gray polish that goes on easy. This color would best complement winter fashions, but I love to wear gray all the time so I wear it year-round. ($9)

OPI: My Very First Knockwurst. I wear this color the most. It’s a soft, baby pinky nude that complements warm skin tones well. It honestly goes with every outfit I wear. ($9)

    MATTE LIPS

    IMG_8022.JPG

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream: Abu Dhabi. I find myself gravitating toward this shade pretty much every day. It’s almost my shade of nude, with a slight pink tone. ($5.99)

    LIP GLOSSES

    IMG_8023.JPG

Nars Lip Gloss: Orgasm. This lip gloss is GORGEOUS. It’s a deep shade of pink with tons of gold shimmer. I save this for special occasions since I only have a sample size. (Full size: $26)

NYX Butter Gloss: Fortune Cookie. This lip gloss is a peachy color. It goes on relatively clear because of the color of my lips, but I absolutely love the vanilla scent. ($4.99)

    MASCARAS

    IMG_8024.JPG

Tarte: Lights, Camera, Lashes. I already have thick, elongated lashes, but this mascara gives me the dramatic look that I love. It slightly clumps my lashes and makes them extra long. (Full size: $23)

Too Faced: Better Than Sex. I prefer to use this mascara on my bottom lashes (which I lack). It clumps them well and gives the illusion that I actually have bottom lashes. (Full size: $23)

Part two of my “It’s Larger than Fashion” series will be coming soon!

    FASHION MEDIA

Welcome to threads & such! I’ve decided to dedicate my first post to some of my favorite YouTubers, books, and movies/tv shows that all focus on fashion. If you’re like me and you feel the need to remix your closet, check out the YouTubers. If you’re curious on the behind-the-scenes action, I would check out the movies and tv show mentioned below. If you’re just looking to gain some knowledge, I’d check out the book!

    SHIRLEY ENIANG

Shirley’s minimalistic but classic style always stands out to me. Her use of muted, neutral tones always scream “amazing”, rather than “boring”.

Vicky’s eccentric, but also minimalistic style always excites me. She never fails to produce well put together outfits that are also budget friendly, but her clothes never skimp on quality.

Erica is the QUEEN of simplicity with a pop of funk. Her minimalistic outfits are always complemented with a funky purse or clutch. Zara, H&M, and American Apparel are the staples that frequent her videos.

    Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s is a documentary that focuses primarily on the development of Bergdorf Goodman’s legendary winter display while also interviewing fashion moguls and celebrities. Available on Netflix, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s is a perfect watch for the luxury fashion connoisseur.

    Kell on Earth

I found Kell on Earth the day it expired on Netflix, and binged watched the whole season in one day. It’s a perfect show for anyone who’s interested in fashion PR. Not only does it show the luxuries behind fashion PR, but it also displays the disagreements, conflict, and unpaid bills that usually go unbeknownst in the fashion world. I was addicted the minute I started watching—I wish it was still available on Netflix! You can catch clips of it on YouTube.

    The Fashion Book

I randomly found this book in a cute bookstore in Manhattan. I was drawn to the colorful cover and of course, the bold “FASHION” on the cover. I haven’t even finished reading through it, but so far, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading through the different designers, models, and icons featured in the book. It gives such detailed information, and I believe it’s definitely worth the price.

Thank you SO much for reading the inaugural post of threads & such! I really appreciate everyone’s support.
